MassBio is currently hiring for a VP of Finance to join our executive leadership team and serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and Board. This role goes beyond managing finances—it drives business modeling, growth planning, and investment in initiatives that strengthen MassBio’s impact. The Vice President of Finance will combine financial expertise with strategic insight to guide decision-making, optimize resources, and position MassBio for sustainable long‑term success.
Key Responsibilities Include: Strategic Growth & Business Partnership
Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to develop and execute organizational strategies, including new revenue models, partnerships, and growth initiatives
Build financial models and scenario analyses to evaluate strategic opportunities and inform decision‑making
Provide data‑driven insights that support innovation, program expansion, and member value creation
Ensure alignment of financial strategy with MassBio’s mission and long‑term vision
Lead annual and multi‑year budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes
Translate strategic priorities into measurable financial goals and KPIs
Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership and the Board
Optimize financial performance by managing cash flow, reserves, and investment strategies
Operations & RiskManagement
Oversee all finance, accounting, and compliance functions, ensuring strong systems and internal controls
Work in conjunction with outsourced accounting firm on monthly close process, audit preparation and accurate revenue recognition throughout the year
Manage relationships with auditors, banks, investment advisors, and key vendors, tax accountants
Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to best practices for nonprofit financial management
Identify opportunities for process and system improvements and lead the implementation of changes that enhance the efficiency and impact
Team & Organizational Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing finance team
Partner with program, membership, and policy leaders to embed financial accountability and rigor across the organization
Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and forward‑looking planning
Board & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a trusted advisor to Executive Committee of the Board of Directors
Deliver clear, compelling presentations of financial strategy, performance, and opportunities
Partner with external stakeholders, funders, and members to ensure sustainable financial growth
Qualifications
10+ years of progressive financial leadership, including strategic planning and business modeling experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred
Background in nonprofit, membership association, or mission‑driven organization preferred; hybrid nonprofit/for‑profit experience a plus
Proven track record of aligning financial strategy with organizational growth goals
Skilled in building models, forecasts, and analysis to guide executive decision‑making
Exceptional communication and influence skills; ability to translate financial concepts for diverse audiences
Entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem‑solving skills and collaborative leadership style
