In 2025 our national honors included being named a Pulitzer finalist for Illustrated Reporting and Commentary and winning an Institute for Nonprofit News Insight Award for Visual Journalism for our reporting on fentanyl’s impacts. We also received a First Amendment Coalition Free Speech and Open Government award for our reporting on illegal rent increases in public housing.
Position Overview We’re looking for a
Deputy Editor – Investigations
to lead investigative and community reporters covering issues of national, state and local significance. This editor will play a key role in producing important investigations, including projects, while helping us turn quicker local accountability stories for our readers across the county.
Key Responsibilities The Deputy Editor should be skilled as an investigative reporter and/or editor with a track record of delivering high‑quality reporting with impact. The ideal candidate will understand the value in engaging with diverse audiences to inform our reporting and our hiring practices. Experience covering immigration, the environment, federal or state government, legal affairs or law enforcement is a plus. Experience managing reporters and editorial workflows is strongly preferred, but not a dealbreaker for the right candidate.
