The Role This role is eligible for our hybrid work model: Two days in‑office. The primary responsibilities of the
Senior Manager Indirect Tax
will be to be a force of proposition for strategy and drive compliance with indirect tax laws in the NAM region by the Company and its brands, always in alignment with their specific business objectives and the wider Company finance strategy. The Senior Manager Indirect Tax will support the brands by coordinating the contribution to relevant US indirect tax policy work, keeping the brands informed of legislative changes and acting as an advisor to the brands on relevant complex and (strategic) indirect tax matters including audits. A clear objective of the Senior Manager will be to keep technical oversight and own the research on complex tax matters, assuring appropriate alignment in application of relevant laws and driving synergies across brands processes wherever possible.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on and assure compliance with US indirect tax legislation by the Company, including developing an end-to-end sales & use tax process in close collaboration with Procurement and AP to assure appropriate vendor tax mapping.
Manage the relationship with external vendor Avalara on automated sales tax calculation, filing and compliance services provided to the brands.
Anticipate and lead on brand indirect tax challenges in the NAM region by co‑developing cross‑brand policies and strategy, coordinating contributions to relevant indirect tax policy work with the Public Affairs team, with a heavy focus on the US.
Support the (indirect) tax function of the Company brands on audit inquiries and queries regarding various business and product matters with a particular view to ensure cross‑brand alignment.
Monitor global indirect tax contingency reserves and tax risk positions of the Company brands in the NAM region, ensuring consistency with the company’s finance policies.
Oversee and support the drafting of streamlined and standardized indirect tax compliance processes across Company brands in the NAM region to build business‑managed tax control frameworks.
Drive the professional development of the NAM indirect tax team and contribute to indirect tax awareness and appreciation within the group for the NAM region, facilitating knowledge sharing between the Company’s brands on indirect tax developments and alignment on implementation of similar business initiatives and/or new legislation.
Qualifications & Skills
Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other relevant fields.
10‑12 years of US indirect tax experience within a Big 4, legal firm and/or in a multinational tax environment.
Excellent knowledge of US state and local indirect tax law with a broad expertise across a diversity of topics and states. US state and local indirect tax audit experience is a must. General knowledge of global (non‑US) indirect tax legislation, particularly in the NAM region, are a plus.
Experience with taxation of digital platforms, especially in the OTA business (marketplace facilitator bills, hotel occupancy taxes, advertising, SaaS and PaaS), is strongly preferred.
Self‑starter, flexible, energetic, passionate, self‑motivated, detail and results‑oriented professional.
Ability to think strategically, multi‑task, and work effectively and efficiently with minimum direction.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate complicated tax technical issues with different stakeholders.
