Mechanical Design Engineer – Location: Troy, MI • Job Type: Full-time, Contract About the Role: Contract Professionals, Inc. (CPI) is seeking a
Mechanical Design Engineer
to join an innovative engineering team developing advanced systems for ground combat vehicles. In this role, you’ll provide concept modeling, design, and engineering support for critical vehicle subsystems such as driver controls, battery integration, seating, and lighting. You may also support adjacent modules including stowage, mounting, and protective guards. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer passionate about defense technology and product development, with hands-on experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and cross-functional collaboration. Responsibilities
Develop detailed hardware concepts using CAD modeling tools to meet all technical and performance requirements. Work within cross-functional engineering teams to deliver on cost, schedule, and technical objectives. Collaborate with peers to ensure designs support a balanced, system-level approach. Partner with drafting teams to mature design concepts into production-ready models and drawings. Oversee release of hardware models and drawings in configuration management systems. Support manufacturing teams during fabrication and integration on prototype and production platforms. Assist with testing, verification, and validation of designed components. Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts for identified technical issues. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
in Mechatronics (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an
ABET-accredited program . 5–7 years
of engineering experience in the defense, aerospace, or automotive industries (military land vehicle experience preferred). Proficiency with
NX
or
Creo
for component and assembly modeling. Experience with
Teamcenter
and drawing creation per
ASME Y14.100
standards. Solid understanding of
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
per
ASME Y14.5 . Proficiency with
Microsoft Office
and
Adobe Acrobat . Ability to work independently while contributing to team success. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Additional Information
Must be a
U.S. Citizen
(required by U.S. Government contract). Eligible to obtain a
U.S. Security Clearance . Willing to work overtime as required. Commitment to continuous improvement and process excellence. Limited travel may be required. Contract Professionals, Inc.
