Maintenance Manager at The Berkeley. Job details The Berkeley is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee all aspects of building maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems. This role requires leadership and consistency in maintenance planning, scheduling, and vendor management.

Responsibilities
Operational Excellence: Oversee all aspects of building maintenance including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems.
Develop and implement maintenance plans and schedules.
Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance.
Ensure all maintenance work is performed to the highest quality standards.
Conduct regular inspections of properties to identify maintenance needs and potential problems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues.
Manage and update preventative maintenance plans and ensure adherence to maintenance schedules.
Respond to maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inventory, and expenses.
Source and supervise third-party contractors and service providers.
Review contractor work for quality and timeliness; approve invoices related to maintenance services.
Develop and manage maintenance budgets and control costs.
Communicate effectively with general managers, residents, and other stakeholders.
Supervision
Lead and supervise a team of maintenance staff, including hiring, training, assigning work, and performance evaluation.
Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of projects.
Address staff issues and concerns, and provide guidance and support.
Health, Wellness, Safety
Follow established Health and Safety procedures, complying with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
Provide leadership in occupational health, safety, and security.
Participate in resident and employee programs (e.g., OHS, Fire Safety, WHMIS).
Follow OHS regulations regarding the reporting and correction of unsafe conditions.
Skills and Qualifications
Certification or hands-on work experience in Plumbing.
Proven experience in building maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Certification or training in mechanical, electrical, or building systems (asset).
HVAC/R System experience (asset).
Strong knowledge of OH&S, fire safety legislation, and maintenance best practices.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communicator with a customer-focused attitude.
Valid NS Driver’s License and clean driving record.
Experience in a seniors’ living or retirement residence setting is an asset.
