The OR Scrub Tech (Operating Room Scrub Technician) sets up sterile field, gathers supplies for surgical cases, based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used. The OR Scrub Tech may pass instruments to surgeons. The OR Scrub Tech performs count procedures per policy during surgical cases. This position functions under the direct supervision of an RN. Responsibilities
Set up sterile field and gather supplies for surgical cases based on instruments and equipment to be used. Pass instruments to surgeons as needed. Perform count procedures per hospital policy during surgical cases. Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Qualifications
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; Licensure, Certification, or Registration required. Requirements for continued employment: Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification. CST within 24 months of hire, preferred. Experience: OR Scrub Tech and/or Surgical Tech experience preferred. Experience in an acute care setting as a nursing assistant or aide if no Scrub or Surgical Technologist experience. Education/training: High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or military training program. Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program. Independent action: Functions under the direction of an RN or independent practitioner in providing indirect patient care, emotional support and problem solving, in accordance with hospital and unit policies. Surgical Technologists work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Shift rotations and schedules are established with the employee’s Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Schedules may be adjusted to meet staffing needs. Takes independent call for routine cases after orientation period. Physical requirements: Lifting 50-100 lbs; exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances; prolonged standing/sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; reaching; repetitive motions. Mental/Sensory requirements: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: Fast-paced environment, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense interactions, and adaptability to change.
