Medical Instrument Technician (Cardiac Catheterization) Base pay range: $86,185.00/yr - $112,038.00/yr. This range is provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Cardiovascular Technician functions independently as a member of the cardiovascular lab under the supervision of the nurse manager. This advanced level technician works with the patient care team that includes registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other providers. The incumbent is responsible for assisting to develop and implement systems to assure the smooth and efficient flow of patients for procedures in the Cardiovascular Lab. Responsibilities
The Cardiovascular Technician functions independently as a member of the cardiovascular lab under the supervision of the nurse manager. Work with the patient care team that includes registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other providers. Scrub, circulate, operate equipment, and assist with the most complex examination and treatment procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (e.g., left and right heart catheterizations, PCI, stent deployment, electrophysiology procedures, intra-aortic balloon pump therapy). Mentor and train lower graded technicians, nursing students, and cardiopulmonary technology students; assist the supervisor/manager with quality control and performance improvement activities. Provide technical assistance to the cardiologist during all procedures in the Cath lab/Electrophysiology lab; monitor and support procedures such as LHC, RHC, EP studies, EP equipment, and related interventions. Assist with setup, calibration, operation, troubleshooting of CCL equipment; monitor waveforms and ensure recognition of normal/abnormal patterns; assist with data acquisition and archiving as needed. Ensure completion of patient records, including catheterization/electrophysiology reports and nurses notes; participate in patient education pre-, intra-, and post-procedure. Contribute to quality control and performance improvement activities and participate in training of new staff, fellows, and students. Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen Non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English per VA standards Education: There are no specific educational requirements for this occupation; education may be substituted for experience at GS-4 and GS-5 levels Licensure or Certification: Licensure or Certification is not required; however, it is strongly desirable (evidence of knowledge, skills, and abilities) Desired certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) RCIS Documentation must be submitted with application if obtained Grade and Specialized Experience
Specialized Experience: At least 1 year of experience at GS-08 level or equivalent, related to cardiac catheterization laboratory duties Knowledge of standard medical terminology to interpret physician orders Ability to scrub, circulate, and monitor advanced procedures (electrophysiology, rotablation, intravascular ultrasound, etc.) and assist with complex interventions Ability to mentor staff and support quality control and performance improvement activities Advanced knowledge of CCL equipment, medications, and supplies; ability to set up, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot equipment Understanding of cardiac waveforms and ECG patterns; ability to recognize artifacts and potential life-threatening situations Knowledge of quality control and performance improvement indicators for the CCL and ability to analyze results Duties
Perform diagnostic tests and invasive/noninvasive assessments of cardiovascular and related systems Scrub, circulate, and operate equipment for complex procedures Mentor and train lower graded technicians and students; support supervisor with QA activities Provide technical assistance to cardiologist during all Cath/Electrophysiology procedures Assist with a range of procedures (LHC, RHC, PCI, TAVR, EP studies, pacemaker/ICD placements, etc.) Monitor procedures, manage equipment and catheters, and anticipate instrument needs Contribute to staffing, training, and performance improvement efforts Physically prepare patients and educate them pre-, intra-, and post-procedure Document and file reports and ensure complete patient records Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Benefits and Employment Details
