Caltrans District 3 invites applications for a Supervising Transportation Engineer (Job Code: JC-496634). This is a permanent, full‑time position located in Sacramento County with a hybrid work arrangement. Salary range is $13,892 – $15,782 per month for New to State candidates. Overview Under the general direction of the Deputy Division Chief for the Division of Local Assistance, the incumbent is responsible for leading and managing the Office of Federal Programs. The role oversees multiple functional branches and a large portfolio of projects implemented by local agencies statewide. Responsibilities include program management, project delivery oversight, technical support, and the development and implementation of strategic investment metrics.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Office of Federal Programs, aligning departmental goals with project delivery.
Oversee multiple functional branches and consult with local agencies on engineering and project issues.
Provide technical support to resolve complex engineering challenges.
Develop and implement strategic investment metrics for performance measurement.
Allocate funds, coordinate programming and funding recommendations, and develop policy guidance for the Office of Federal Programs.
Participate in high‑level policy and planning decisions, ensuring compliance with federal and state funding requirements.
Implement proactive oversight of local agencies to ensure programs serve the public interest.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
I.
One year of transportation engineering experience as a senior level engineer in the California state service.
II.
One year of supervisory or managerial experience equivalent to a Senior Transportation Planner in the California state service and two years of civil engineering work at the Associate Engineer level or higher in the California state service.
III.
Broad and extensive transportation engineering experience (more than five years), with two years of which are equivalent in responsibility to a senior level engineer in the California state service.
