For more than 45 years, Sasha Bruce has implemented innovative interventions aimed at bringing an end to youth homelessness in the DC region. Today, its programs in DC and Prince George’s County, MD, reach over 6,500 runaway, homeless, abused, neglected youth, and their families.

About The Resilient Scholars Program This program will work with young people who have exited or are exiting from New Beginnings and who are working toward graduating or obtaining their GED by providing tutoring, mentoring as well as workforce development. This is an intensive program with regular check‑ins on progress toward graduation, job readiness, and employment.

Position Summary The Education and Employment Specialist is responsible for conducting assessments and matching youth with tutors and support. They will work to ensure the implementation of education plans for each youth and establish plans for on‑time graduation. This position’s schedule requirements are 2 days 12 PM to 8 AM; 3 days 9 AM to 5 PM or 10 AM to 6 PM.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a Human Services related field or equivalent experience.

Three years of experience working with at‑risk youth and vulnerable populations—preferably youth who have been involved in the criminal justice system.

Experience in providing tutoring support and navigating the education system.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

This is a full‑time, exempt level position reporting to the Program Manager.

All candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, pass required clearances, and provide any additional information regarding prior records if necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

Create and develop a personal educational plan with each youth; this plan includes information on the client’s definition of academic success, their challenges, and intended next steps. The plan will serve as the basis for program success and will also ensure documentation of attendance, grades, progress notes, behavioral issues, modification plans, extracurricular activities, and other required supports.

Tutor youth as needed.

Re‑evaluate educational plans at 6‑month intervals or sooner based on client needs.

Oversee virtual and in‑person tutoring services, supervise tutors, and check in regularly to ensure clients meet studying and educational goals.

Create overall curriculum for clients, facilitate trainings and workshops on relevant topics including study‑skills development, graduation requirements, trade schools, college applications, college access exams, and related subjects.

Collaborate with school staff, tutoring agencies, and other educational supports; provide familial support services including home visits and involve family members in education plans.

Refer clients to coding and technology courses and certification programs and support them throughout enrollment and coursework.

Collaborate with the Sasha Bruce College and Career Program Director when appropriate; provide crisis intervention and on‑site counseling as needed.

Complete service documentation in client case records within 24–48 hours of the service; maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case files and reports to track client progress and outcomes.

Participate in regular team consultation meetings with staff working with shared clients, attend staff meetings, trainings, conferences, regular supervision, and community outreach events as required, ensuring 40 hours of required training each year.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or their designee.
