Senior Mechanical Engineer About the Role:

The Mechanical Engineer IV plays a key role in conceptualizing and designing automated equipment according to customer and internal specifications. The role serves as Mechanical Engineering Lead on projects ranging from small to large‑scale (>$1.5M), multi‑module systems. Responsibilities include leading complex automation challenges, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high standards of functionality, safety and cost‑effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Design cam, servo, and air‑operated stations; modify existing designs.

Execute cam (drive) designs to meet functional requirements.

Ensure robust, functional, and cost‑effective designs, incorporating ATS LS Chicago standards and regulatory requirements.

Research and specify appropriate materials and purchased components.

Prepare pneumatic and timing diagrams and select sensors.

Create detailed assembly drawings, bills of materials, release packages, and update drawings.

Participate in internal and customer design reviews.

Work with suppliers to develop optimal, economical solutions.

Problem‑solve design or detail issues and update documentation.

Guide and mentor Level I and II Mechanical Engineers.

Ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.

Follow ISO 9001:2008 & 13485:2003 policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

6+ years of automation experience.

Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, 3D SolidWorks, or similar CAD systems.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common design tools.

Strong skills in using inspection and measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).

Clear communication in verbal and written formats.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Normal visual and hearing acuity for reading instructions.

Work in a standard office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and manufacturing hazards.

Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
