Department Marketing Statement Technology Management is an academic department focused on a multidisciplinary field of science that examines the opportunities and challenges of technological innovation, industry disruption, and organizational change, and the influence on business performance and competitive advantage. The field of research and education is informed by the engineering, information, and social sciences. The faculty investigate the dynamic interplay of technological, organizational, and human factors within and beyond the enterprise and their impact on the way businesses create and operate. Technology Management students explore the world of work through research-based, theoretical, and experiential learning and one or more academic pathways: Ph.D. in Technology Management, Master of Technology Management, New Venture Program and Competition, and UC-recognized Undergraduate Certificate in Technology Management and Graduate Program in Management Practice (GPMP Certificate).

Job Description The Communications & Administrative Coordinator reports to the Business Officer and provides a blend of administrative, communications, and creative services. The role works closely with the Department Chair to provide executive‑level support while also leading departmental communications, marketing, and digital media initiatives. This position serves as a central hub for departmental messaging and operational support, drafting content, maintaining web and digital platforms, and coordinating projects that advance the Department of Technology Management's academic and programmatic goals. It requires exceptional writing and editing skills, strong organizational abilities, discretion, and the capacity to balance multiple priorities in a fast‑paced academic environment. The Coordinator collaborates with the Chair, Business Officer, faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and external stakeholders to ensure the Department of Technology Management's vision, achievements, and opportunities are communicated with professionalism, clarity, and creativity. This position also assists with special initiatives and administrative projects as assigned, requiring adaptability, sound judgment, and initiative.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent experience.

1‑3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations in an academic or professional setting.

1‑3 years of experience with website management tools (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and social media platforms.

1‑3 years proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).

Good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi‑tasking, and time‑management skills.

Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information with professionalism.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to interpret and apply branding, accessibility, and communications standards to digital and print media.

Demonstrated problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience/training.

1‑3 years of experience producing digital newsletters and donor/stakeholder communications.

1‑3 years of experience in higher education administration.

Familiarity with UC and UCSB policies, procedures, and branding standards.

Background in marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field supporting strategic messaging or engagement initiatives.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time 25% Administrative & Chair Support – Provides analytical and administrative support to the Department Chair, manages the Chair’s calendar, prepares confidential correspondence, and coordinates meetings and events. 45% Communications, Marketing & Outreach – Leads the department’s communications strategy, writes and edits newsletters, press releases, and donor correspondence, and develops marketing materials. 30% Digital Media & Web Presence – Serves as webmaster for the departmental website, manages social media accounts, leads digital campaigns, and tracks engagement metrics.
