Bethany Family Pet Clinic is growing and has a full-time opportunity for a
Certified Veterinary Technician
to join our team! Licensure in the state of Oregon is REQUIRED to be considered for this position.
Compensation $25-28/hour depending on experience with a $2500 sign‑on bonus.
Location 15166 NW Central Dr, Portland, OR 97229.
Shift Details We are open seven days a week, and typically schedule four 10‑hour shifts. Weekends preferred, closed on major holidays.
About Us We are a state‑of‑the‑art veterinary practice with over 20 years in a quickly growing community. We have 11 veterinarians, the latest medical equipment, a full surgical suite, two dental suites, and clients who are willing to help their fur babies. We were the first Fear Free Certified practice in Oregon, AAHA certified, Certified Cat Friendly Practice, and we enjoy helping our employees learn, grow, and do more.
About You An enthusiastic, energetic, compassionate individual with a few years or more of veterinary work experience. The ideal candidate will be able to drop into our experienced team without missing a beat, have great communication skills, great technical skills, and be ready to join a fun and energetic team. Job Summary This position provides leadership and training to the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and provides medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act. The Veterinary Technician will communicate effectively with employees and clients and have great attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Responsibilities
Maintain and uphold Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP.
Provide guidance to the support staff to assure that the shift flows well.
Mentor team members for career advancement and personal development toward goals.
Provide input to the hospital manager for 360‑degree employee performance evaluations.
Provide patient care under the supervision and direction of a DVM.
Maintain excellent client communication.
Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms, and accurate information.
Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
Answer client’s inquiries about basic animal care questions and routine procedures; handle client’s medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate.
Additional Functions
Provide client care for scheduling appointments, taking payments, and checking in clients.
Answer the phones in a courteous and informative way.
Provide feedback and changes to the training program.
Take part in job shadows or working interviews as necessary.
Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental, and nursing.
Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and handle a fast‑paced environment.
Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections.
Knowledge of dosage and common side‑effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients.
Knowledge of common anesthesia and recovery states with ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or concerns arise with hospitalized patients.
Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia.
Proficient reading, writing and speaking English.
Confidence around pets.
Required Education And Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
State Department of Regulation Licensing required.
1+ years of veterinary industry experience.
Physical Requirements
Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb; manipulate up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker.
Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods.
Perform duties while in a hospital environment.
Work in noisy work conditions with moderately high sounds.
Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, medication/controlled substances.
Ability to hear verbal instructions, client discourse and veterinary patients; specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and adjust focus.
Good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity, ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
Travel required: Minimal travel required, possibly for vendor visits and associate education.
