Research Assistant I – Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute Join the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) as a Research Assistant I in the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute. This role supports the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in research projects involving small and large animal models, data analysis, and publication of findings.

Responsibilities

Performs research projects, including the collection and organization of data and follows instructions and standard operating procedures.

Conducts data entry accurately, maintains laboratory records, and ensures compliance with Good Laboratory practices.

Maintains laboratory supplies, cleanliness, and sanitation.

Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data, ensuring accuracy for statistical analyses.

Assists in preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols; communicates detailed observations on experiments.

Performs statistical analyses using appropriate software and validates reproducible statistical applications.

Works collaboratively with peers to develop quality project protocols, research reports, presentations, and manuscript publications.

Assists with laboratory research projects using small animal models (mice/rats) and large animal models (NHP), including blood/tissue collection and biochemical assays.

Opportunity to write papers and publish in scientific journals.

May perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including participation in required training.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Biological sciences preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 0–2 years experience; prior experience with small animals/rodents and pre‑clinical research desired; NHP experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and assays such as Luminex, ELISA, and microscopy.

Ability to follow detailed instructions and strong communication and analytical skills.

Experience with statistical software (SPSS, GraphPad Prism, SigmaPlot, MATLAB, etc.) and data science/bioinformatics applications.

Strong writing skills and the ability to maintain the T1 public trust background investigation.

Physical Capabilities

Lifting materials over 25 lbs.

Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.

Must be able to wear N95 respirator.

Work Environment

Primarily in a laboratory setting, including some work in an animal facility.

HepB, Tdap, MMR immunizations and a negative TB test required to work inside the animal facility.

Compensation

The hourly pay range is $18.25–$25.00, based on experience, education, etc.
