What You Will Do
Lead execution of major programs within the department, including shelter mechanical design, electronic equipment integration, end-item development, vendor coordination, and integration of power and cooling systems.
Support and lead cross‑functional engineering teams, delivering solutions across all phases of the program lifecycle, including next‑generation sensing technologies and production transition.
Lead and contribute to proposal efforts and Estimate at Completion (EAC) activities, providing strategic and technical input.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert across multiple programs, ensuring successful execution and delivery.
Act as a technical liaison to programs and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring stakeholder alignment.
Oversee technical performance of the design team, providing engineering guidance throughout the product lifecycle.
Support and lead Technical Data Package (TDP) development and conduct thorough peer reviews.
Lead mid‑to‑large‑sized cross‑functional engineering teams, driving technical execution from proposal generation through first‑article production.
Perform complex mechanical design of components, subassemblies, and major end items for defense system applications, ensuring compliance with requirements.
Provide product integration support for domestic and international factories and suppliers.
Manage and meet schedule, cost, and technical performance commitments for assigned tasks and projects.
Apply deep knowledge of hardware engineering best practices to maintain technical excellence.
Required Qualifications
10+ years in a Mechanical Engineering role focused on design and development of mechanical equipment, preferably in military or defense environments.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience leading engineering teams with accountability for cost, schedule, and technical performance; project management experience with budgeting and scheduling.
Proven ability to work in an IPT environment across engineering disciplines and with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Program Management, and customers.
Hands‑on mechanical design experience, including:
Performing trade studies
Developing concepts through detailed design
Supporting transition to production
Providing ongoing production and supplier support
Experience conducting Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analyses, driving cost‑reduction initiatives, and producing engineering white papers or technical documentation.
Broad expertise in mechanical design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes; proficiency in CAD tools and PDM systems.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
A U.S. government‑issued security clearance and U.S. passport are required.
Desired Qualifications
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of military and commercial specifications and standards.
Hands‑on experience in design, fabrication, and integration of:
Electronic assemblies including Circuit Cards
Power distribution equipment
Interconnects, cables, and harness systems
Strong analytical and advanced problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams; minimal conflict and strong collaboration skills.
Adaptability and flexibility to take on diverse, evolving assignments.
Proven team‑leadership experience, including motivating and monitoring performance of multi‑disciplinary technical teams.
Experience managing engineering budgets with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and the EAC process.
Prior experience leading or contributing to proposal development.
