Senior Mechanical Engineer Join KMEA as a Senior Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager. KMEA is a project management, environmental, energy, engineering and sustainability consulting company providing professional engineering, scientific, and technical services throughout the United States and internationally. We serve federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, offering services such as Major Program Management, Environmental Remediation, Engineering (A/E), Sustainability, and Staff Augmentation.

The position is based in the San Antonio office, Texas. The role requires working from the office at least two days per week, with approximately 20 percent travel.

Main Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership, project management, and program oversight for multiple concurrent mechanical and civil engineering projects in the federal sector.

Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality project outcomes.

Serve as the primary client point of contact, maintaining strong relationships with federal agencies, DoD stakeholders, and other project partners.

Oversee the planning, design, analysis, and implementation of complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Ensure compliance with federal, DoD, and local codes, standards, and specifications, and provide quality assurance for technical deliverables.

Manage project budgets, schedules, scopes of work, and resource allocation, ensuring adherence to contractual and financial requirements.

Coordinate and review design documentation, submittals, cost estimates (RS Means preferred), and contractor proposals.

Conduct site assessments, field inspections, and construction support activities, identifying risks and recommending corrective actions.

Oversee and provide direction to subcontractors and consultants, as needed, to ensure alignment with project goals and performance standards.

Prepare and review technical reports, correspondence, and formal submittals for client and internal approval.

Promote and ensure adherence to company and site‑specific safety standards across all project activities.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. State (required).

Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, including project management and supervisory roles.

Demonstrated experience managing federal or DoD mechanical engineering projects from design through construction.

Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across engineering, architectural, and construction disciplines.

Proficiency in AutoCAD (required); Revit and ANSYS experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems design and analysis.

Experience with energy modeling, building performance analysis, and sustainability standards.

Proficient in preparing accurate multi‑discipline cost estimates and managing budgets and schedules.

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with a focus on delivering high‑quality, compliant work.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Experience with federal and DoD contracts preferred.

Government Security Clearance (preferred, or ability to obtain).

Must pass a background check, drug test, and MVR check.

Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
