VDOT is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to implement and provide support to the agency's IT Network infrastructure. The Senior Network Engineer will perform day‑to‑day activities related to the support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of VDOT Network infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

Considerable knowledge and working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers (including the ability to document, set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot). Be capable of troubleshooting network related infrastructure. Identify and diagnose system problems by using line monitors, diagnostic software, and test equipment. Work closely with the agency's IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather requirements, specifications, and configurations to assure they are accurate and up to date. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime. Assist in overseeing the installation, documentation, and upgrades of various agency facility data network infrastructure. Collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations. Provide documentation, network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls when required. Work independently on assigned projects. Possess minimally an industry standard networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA‑Junos). Required Skills & Qualifications

Considerable knowledge and hands‑on experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers – 8+ years. Demonstrated ability to design, install and troubleshoot local‑area and wide‑area enterprise networks – 8+ years. Direct hands‑on experience engineering and designing networks – 8+ years. Industry standard networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA‑Junos) – N/A. In‑depth experience designing, installing and troubleshooting local‑area and wide‑area enterprise networks – 8+ years. Experience monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards – 8+ years. Experience creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance – 8+ years. Experience performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery – 8+ years. Experience creating network diagrams using industry standard tools such as Visio – 8+ years. Experience with networking features and protocols such as ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, EtherChannel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, BRI/PRI, MPLS – 8+ years. Experience working with SDWAN – 8+ years. Preferred: 3+ years experience working with network topology related to cloud – 3+ years. Preferred: 3+ years familiarity and experience working with cloud networking – 3+ years.
