Overview
Montana State University’s Liberal Studies program, located in the College of Letters & Science, provides undergraduate students with a broad, integrated, and interdisciplinary learning experience. The Liberal Studies program seeks pool applications for potential instructors typically for LS 101, LS 301, LS 451, LS 452, and LS 490 (formerly LS 401). These courses are regularly taught in the fall and spring semesters.

Duties and Responsibilities
Design and/or deliver Liberal Studies / Liberal Studies Online courses, as assigned.
If teaching online, complete specialized online training, peer mentor training, and regularly attend online workshops.
Assist with curriculum and/or course development, when applicable.
Collaborate with other faculty to ensure consistent standards across courses.
Participate in faculty meetings when called.
Participate in program and university assessment of student learning outcomes.
Hold appropriate office hours/availability for student questions and concerns.
Meet & collaborate regularly with, and evaluate peer leaders/mentors, if one is assigned to your section.
Qualifications Required
Master’s degree in a field related to humanities, social science, natural science, or fine arts.
Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside a related program.
Preferred
PhD in a field related to humanities, social science, natural science, or fine arts.
Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses.
Demonstrated knowledge of college student development.
Terminal degree in a field related to humanities, social science, natural science, or fine arts.
Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity.
The Successful Candidate Will
Have the ability to develop classroom rapport with students, and be skilled in utilizing engaging pedagogy that involves students in the learning process.
Mentor and inspire a diverse student body.
Have effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and staff.
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Take initiative, exercise good judgment, and work well independently.
Appreciate diverse constituencies and add intellectual diversity to the department.
Commit to supporting and enhancing Montana State University’s initiative for diversity, equity and inclusiveness.

Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). This is a condition of employment.
