Correctional Youth Security Supervisor III – Mount View Youth Service Center
Join the Colorado Department of Human Services as a Correctional Youth Security Supervisor III at the Mount View Campus. This supervisory role is open to Colorado state residents only.
Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides residential and non‑residential services for youth aged 10‑21. DYS operates fifteen secure facilities and oversees caregiver‑supervised and parole programs. The Mount View campus serves pre‑adjudicated and adjudicated youth in a locked setting.
Description Of Job Summary Of The Position The position is a first‑line formal supervisor responsible for overseeing direct‑care Youth Services Specialists. Daily duties include scheduling staff, managing youth movement, admissions/releases, orientation, security/control, educational support, recreational and food service activities, medical referrals, and customer service. The supervisor ensures staff performance and compliance with DYS policies, trauma‑responsive programming, and the Sanctuary Model.
Performance Management The supervisor teaches, informs, monitors, and coaches staff. Responsibilities include: performing individual performance reviews, documenting concerns, and applying the Reflective Supervision model in monthly meetings. The supervisor ensures timely, quality work and oversees intake or release of youth.
Personnel and Supervision The supervisor participates in hiring, onboarding, and staff retention. Responsibilities are: training staff on policies, ensuring completion of annual training, resolving informal grievances, providing performance feedback, initiating progressive discipline, and conducting formal supervision sessions with YSS I and YSS II staff.
Safety and Security/Emergency The supervisor manages daily facility operations, enforces count protocols, evaluates incidents, communicates debriefs, and conducts crisis intervention. Duties include monitoring youth movement, employing de‑escalation skills, supervising mechanical restraints and seclusion, conducting emergency drills, and maintaining facility sanitation. The supervisor supports safety contracts and collaborates with mental health personnel.
Programming The supervisor maintains youth center programming, ensures documentation, leads trauma‑responsive tools, and follows the DYS Strategic Plan. Responsibilities include orchestrating problem‑solving groups, sanctuary psycho‑educational groups, and daily safety & recreation activities. The supervisor models professional standards and enforces the facility’s behavior management program.
Documentation/Quality Control Supervise accurate documentation of daily operations, unit activities, and incident reports. Ensure completion of searches, meal tracking, and other logs. Maintain compliance with DYS policies on suicide precaution monitoring, NDR status, seclusion, and medical watch.
Organizational Accountability Attend trainings, maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders, and adhere to CDHS and DYS policies. Model Sanctuary 7 commitments and support a positive, respectful culture.
Other Duties As Assigned Perform other responsibilities as delegated in accordance with facility policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Work Experience:
Two (2) years of full‑time professional corrections‑related experience in a correctional or trauma‑informed facility.
Education:
High‑school diploma or GED. College coursework in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, recreation, or a closely related field substitutes for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Lived Experience:
Demonstrated perseverance and passion for youth support; not a substitute for minimum qualifications.
Age/Background:
Minimum of 21 years old, no felony convictions or history of domestic violence. Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license required.
Background Checks:
Comprehensive criminal and child‑protective background checks and drug screening.
Training:
Completion of DYS Pre‑service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO), and mandatory annual training.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in program and/or project development.
Training and facilitation experience.
Supervisory/management experience.
Data‑driven performance management experience.
Experience with high‑risk juvenile populations.
Policy analysis and implementation experience.
Relevant years of state service experience.
Conditions Of Employment

Shift work and travel within Colorado may be required.
Continued employment contingent upon successful training and continuing education.
