Job Summary The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the electrical design of the project assigned. Specifically, this position will utilize expert knowledge and skills in the design and engineering of electrical systems. Projects assigned to the Senior Electrical Engineer are generally larger and more complex in nature. This position is responsible for identifying and providing solutions to complex electrical engineering problems. The Senior Electrical Engineer will initiate conceptual designs subject to the review and approval of the Electrical Engineer Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and Preconstruction Manager.

Duties / Responsibilities

Responsible for all aspects of the electrical design, engineering, and specifications of the project assigned

Organize the design and engineering effort required to facilitate the project from initial concept through completion

Report to the electrical engineering team lead regarding scheduling requirements

Direct and accept responsibility for the work of designers and engineers assigned to the project

Make any adjustments to calculations, drawings, and specifications as required by the electrical engineering team lead

Must be familiar with the project's scope of work, engineering hours budget, and construction budget

Assist in developing and maintaining drafting, design, and engineering standards

Utilize knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete the drawings with minimal supervision

Collaborate with project teams to monitor and meet milestones of the project schedule within the allotted budgets

Inform the electrical engineering team lead of project scope and budget changes; make ongoing coordination checks to assure project quality and adherence to the project budget

Perform site surveys and equipment assessments

Provide project engineering coordination during construction as assigned

Serve in a support role on projects as directed by the electrical engineering team lead

Develop accurate schematic design solutions for prospective complex projects within an expedited timeframe

Interact with project stakeholders, contractors, and third‑party associates to develop and maintain productive working relationships

Other tasks as assigned within the scope of this role

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering

Minimum of seven (7) years' electrical engineering experience with a professional engineering firm, or electrical contractor engaged in MEP related or similar work

Professional Electrical Engineer's license is a plus, but not required

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Willingness to travel to worksites, up to 25%

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of electrical design, engineering, and construction means and methods associated with the new or renovation of commercial and institutional buildings and/or similar facilities

Proficiency with low voltage systems design (e.g., Fire Alarm, TeleCom, Security, etc.)

Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite; highly proficient in the use of Excel and other software used in the construction industry

Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam Revu)

Proficient user of AutoCAD and Revit Design software

Excellent mathematical skills to perform the duties of this role, review or prepare budgets and other job‑related documents, and effectively perform the role of an electrical engineer

Strong communication skills (oral and written); able to effectively relay information to various audience groups, including customers and prospective customers, managers, leadership, colleagues, and business associates; able to prepare professional written communications (emails, documents, etc.)

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with individuals internal and external to the company and from various backgrounds

Highly collaborative and focused on sharing details routinely and consistently with team members

Self‑managing, able to work autonomously when necessary and effectively integrate with project teammates to meet deadlines and expectations

Working Conditions

Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand‑eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers, and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Travel may include overnight stays for multiple nights; travel may be by personal vehicle or by commercial airline.
