Job Summary This position is in the Department of Behavioral Health, Child and Youth Services Division, School Behavioral Health Program. The incumbent provides comprehensive social work services for children and their families within a school based setting. Incumbent provides clinical treatment services to students and their families within a school based setting. Incumbent provides clinical treatment services to students and their families, and facilitates individual and school-wide crisis interventions. Conducts initial screening and diagnostic interviews to obtain student mental health, medical, school, and family history. Provides clinical diagnosis and develops individualized treatment plans. Coordinates with multi-disciplinary teams based within the school regarding results of assessments and proposed interventions and therapeutic strategies. Incumbent is also responsible for the implementation of prevention and early services/resources for students and their families. Provides consultative services and technical assistance to teachers regarding interventions designed to support classroom activities; and provides educational presentations on mental health issues for students, their families, and school staff. Ensures assignments are completed in compliance with Department of Behavioral Health and MCO/insurance regulations.

Qualifications As a basic requirement, all applicants must have successfully completed a four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelors or higher degree which involved major study in an academic field related to health or allied sciences. This position requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal grade level progression for the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Licensures, Certifications And Other Requirements Applicants must be a
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, (LICSW) , through the D.C. Department of Health, Health Professional Licensing Administration.
Education Applicants must have successfully completed a course of study in an accredited School of Social Work and have fulfilled all the requirements for the Master’s Degree in Social Work. A copy of the Master’s degree and license must accompany the application for the position.
Work Experience In addition, applicants must possess one (1) year of professional work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Work Environment The work is performed in a school setting and may require travel to other locations within the District. This position involves exposure to risks and hazards of working with clients with emotional and behavioral issues.
Residency Requirement A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of a non-expired DC Driver’s License or Non-driver’s license and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
This position is designated as Emergency. As an Emergency employee, you must report to work or remain at work if activated, during a declared emergency.
