Position Title
General Manager – Hacienda Campo Alegra
Location Willacy County, Texas (northeast of Raymondville)
Position Description The individual hired will have oversight of a 6,000+ acre ranch in South Texas, northeast of Raymondville. Responsibilities include accountability for all livestock (buffalo, watusi, commercial crossbred cows, horses), wildlife operations (no commercial activity), maintenance of infrastructure and equipment, range and grazing management (including brush management and wildlife habitat), and hospitality (ownership and guests only). Expectations of ownership are high but reasonable. This ranch is managed with a keen focus on stewardship and wildlife conservation, as well as being a responsive member and contributor to the local community.
Qualifications B.S. degree in a related field is preferred but not absolutely necessary. In addition, experience, skills, and a successful history of management in this and related fields will be considered in evaluating prospective employees. The individual selected must have a valid driver’s license and certifications that may be helpful for completion of ranch objectives (private burn certifications, herbicide application permit, etc.).
General understanding of Excel, Word, mapping, and data entry
Understanding of general accounting principles and financial performance
Physical capabilities to work in the harsh South Texas environment
Good communication skills, willingness to seek input and keep ownership informed
Team builder
Unquestionable integrity and character
Self‑starter and strategic thinker
Takes hold of assignments and operations
Safety and security conscious
Responsibilities
Understanding and adherence to HCA Mission Statement and Goals
Sales, purchase, production, and marketing of livestock
Understanding and enforcement of ranch policies as adopted by ownership
Ability to manage logistical and regulatory challenges
Representative and active in industry associations, water board, governmental regulatory authorities (especially TAHC and TP&WD), environmental compliance, local government, etc.
Performance benchmarking
Budgeting and financial compliance with budgets (including capital items)
Estimated Salary & Benefits Dependent on qualifications, but competitive. Housing, bonus, insurance, 401(k) and other benefits are included.
