Position Description: We are seeking a highly skilled Ranch Manager to oversee all aspects of ranch operations, including cow/calf management and land stewardship. This includes navigating the unique challenges of South Texas heat and dense brush conditions. This is a hands‑on leadership role that requires horseback cattle work, strategic thinking, resource negotiation, and the ability to manage both people and property with integrity and efficiency. This is a family‑owned ranch; ownership occasionally visits and participates in round‑ups.

Vaquillas Ranch is a sixth‑generation ranching legacy that has been operating in South Texas for over a century. We raise Beefmaster‑Angus crosses bred for quality, temperament, and resilience in our rugged environment. We’re devoted to sustainable land stewardship, enhancing our herd’s genetics, and training future ranchers, for the glory of God.

This position requires full‑time residency on the ranch, with family or single housing provided and relocation assistance offered. Ranch equipment and vehicles are supplied. Competitive salary and performance‑based bonuses are available.

Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred); ability to speak conversational Spanish (required).

Proven experience in ranch management, preferably in South Texas or similar semi‑arid climates.

Skilled in horseback cattle handling and feed truck operation, including working cattle through dense brush.

Education preferred: TCU Ranch Management Program, Texas A&M‑Kingsville Ranch Management, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Strong record‑keeping, organizational, and computer skills.

Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification or willingness to obtain.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work long hours outdoors in challenging weather and environmental conditions.

Must be able to manage over 1,000 head of cattle efficiently.

Must provide professional references from past employment.

Ability to implement brush clearing and buffle grass programs.

Perform equipment repairs as needed.Operate and maintain farm machinery, power tools, and heavy equipment.

Monitor and move cattle through a rotational grazing operation based on a grazing plan.

Responsibilities

Oversee cow/calf operations with Beefmaster‑Angus cross herds, supervising breeding, calving, and overall animal health.

Perform horseback work to gather cattle, bulls, and strays in rough brush country.

Direct land improvement and brush control efforts in heavy mesquite, prickly pear, and other dense South Texas vegetation.

Operate and maintain ranch equipment in rugged terrain and extreme heat (triple‑digit temperatures).

Develop and implement grazing plans to balance herd health with pasture sustainability.

Maintain accurate ranch records, including cattle inventories, grazing rotations, expenses, lease agreements, and maintenance logs.

Organize and coordinate ranch schedules, supply orders, and staff assignments.

Foster strong working relationships with employees, contractors, vendors, and community partners as a collaborative team player.

Represent Vaquillas Ranch in the ranching community by attending TSCRA meetings, industry events, and other social functions, with a preference for high social engagement.
