Job Summary Located in the nation’s capital, The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is the chief legal office of the District of Columbia. The OAG enforces the laws of the District, defends, and provides legal advice to the District’s government agencies and protects the interests of the District’s residents.

This position is located in the Shared Services Section of the Child Support Services Division (CSSD). The CSSD goal is to elevate the well‑being of children and the self‑sufficiency of families by delivering first‑rate child support services that help parents meet the financial, medical, and emotional needs of their children. The role seeks a Case Management Coordinator with experience in case management and child support services.

Duties And Responsibilities

Coordinate and implement a comprehensive and intensive case management program for establishing paternity and establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support on behalf of the District of Columbia.

Assist the manager in ensuring that work activities adhere to regulatory requirements, procedures, and practices of the Office of the Attorney General and the Division, and recommend resolutions for non‑compliant practices and issues.

Serve in a liaison capacity with multiple units and agencies to coordinate paternity and child support case activities and programs.

Assist with defining ultimate goals and collaborate with appropriate agency representatives in drafting master plans to accomplish program goals.

Participate in the coordination of initial and comprehensive needs assessments for the Child Support Services Program to determine the level of functioning as well as existing strengths, barriers, and extent of service intervention needed.

Study goals and objectives, precedent applications, and related subject areas to recommend critical performance standards.

Identify services gaps and participate in feasibility studies to analyze, evaluate, and determine practicability and adaptability of new or revised procedures.

Handle moderately complex and difficult research matters that involve review, digestion, and summarization of legal and other reference documents.

Provide technical advice and recommendations to the supervisor, attorneys, and program managers on matters of importance regarding the continuation or abandonment of specific program activities.

Review, evaluate, and prepare summaries of legal data to support recommended courses of action on assigned cases in accordance with judicial procedures, rules of the courts, and rules of evidence.

Coordinate the preparation of case records for litigation.

Review and ensure that collected data is accurate, adequate and complete; collaborate with the Litigation Unit to determine the type of legal action to be initiated, and ensure documentation is court‑ready for litigation by attorney staff.

Conduct consultations with customers to increase their understanding of the requirements of child support enforcement laws, mandates, and processes.

Maintain communication with customers to monitor and evaluate case status.

Maintain statistical data and updated case records that reflect current and accurate data of customers and the case management activities performed.

Ensure easy access to legal documents and other reference documents in addition to current information regarding the status of work in progress.

Meet with court representatives to provide updated information on customers’ cases and provide court reports.

Ensure reports are complete with accurate and current information regarding the status of the case, reflecting sound judgment and consistent with agency policy.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Education Applicants must have at least two (2) years of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the CS‑12 grade level, or its non‑District equivalent, gained from either the public or private sector. Experience in case management and child support services is required.

Working Conditions / Environment Work is generally performed in an office setting. Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday; 8:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.

Salary and Benefits Pay Plan: CS‑301‑13. Starting salary is negotiable up to $113,620 depending on qualifications and availability of funds. The position is a Career Service – Regular appointment and is not part of a collective bargaining unit.

Position Designation and Background Investigation This position has been deemed Sensitive under the DC Personnel Manual. Incumbents are subject to enhanced suitability screening, must pass a criminal background and consumer credit check, and will undergo periodic criminal background checks during tenure.

Residency Preference Applicants claiming “Residency Preference” must maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
