Cal Student Store Supervisor (Full‑time) Barnes & Noble College is a retail partner for nearly 800 colleges and universities nationwide. We offer a retail environment focused on delivering essential educational content, tools, and merchandise within a dynamic campus setting. Our teams interact with students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and the general public, providing outstanding customer service for books, general merchandise, and an array of academic products.

Overview We are seeking a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer‑focused supervisor to work full‑time (minimum 30 hours per week) year‑round. The Supervisor will support the management team, oversee team members in specific departments or the entire store, and provide exceptional customer service to the academic community.

Responsibilities A Supervisor should support the management team, be a resource for all departments, set a model for customer service, drive sales, and solve problems. The majority of the time will be spent coaching and modeling excellent customer service on the sales floor, training team members, and ensuring the store operates smoothly.

Spend the majority of your time on the selling floor delivering, coaching, and modeling exceptional customer service.

Maintain a working knowledge of all departments in the store to provide daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members.

Help resolve customer issues and complaints and "escalate problems" to the management team when necessary.

Assist in the daily operation of the store in partnership with the management team and act as the Manager‑on‑Duty in the absence of the manager or at satellite locations.

Assist with assigning work and providing focused direction to team members to manage and accomplish multiple projects and ensure proper execution of tasks.

Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments as needed.

Full‑time positions require availability to work at least 30 hours on a weekly basis year‑round. Schedules may be set or vary to meet store needs.

Routine housekeeping including dusting, mopping, cleaning windows, vacuuming, and trash removal.

Physical Demands

Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and products.

Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.

Frequent lifting.

Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

Pay Full‑time Supervisor pay range $21.25 per hour.

Qualifications

2+ years’ experience in a retail setting preferred.

Minimum age 18 years.

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.

Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
