Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Basic Qualifications
U.S. citizenship (non-citizens only when no qualified citizens can be recruited).
Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school.
Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
Completed residency in an accredited core specialty program leading to board‑certification eligibility.
Board certification in Hematology and Oncology preferred.
Full‑time licensed physician; PRPs may be appointed on an intermittent basis.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical ability to sit, stand, walk up to 2 hrs, lift ≥45 lb, reach above shoulder, and perform repeated bending.
Emotional and mental stability appropriate for duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
Attend Hematology/Oncology inpatient consult service (Monday‑Friday 8 am‑4:30 pm with on‑call).
Provide consultative support to inpatient services and oncology inpatient attendings.
See patients in continuity clinics and new referrals.
Primary care for patients with active cancer or hematologic disease.
Supervise inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy and infusion procedures.
Perform bone marrow aspirates and biopsies; participate in oncology conferences.
Supervise hematology/oncology fellows and oversee clinical trials.
Conduct research oversight, IRB compliance, and clinical trials participation.
Engage in quality improvement initiatives and serve on committees.
Compensation & Benefits Base pay $280,000 /yr – $330,000 /yr. Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, and annual paid time off (50‑55 days). Retirement: traditional federal pension and 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution. Federal health, vision, dental, life, long‑term care and other insurance options. Malpractice coverage provided.
