This position evaluates medical records, provides clinical and surgical abstraction for full range of complex and/or multispecialty surgical, procedural and E&M professional services in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines. Utilize coding knowledge and expertise to support department projects, validation edits and/or revisions. Analyze information from medical records, accurately code diagnostic and procedural information, and consult with medical providers for clarification as needed. Abstract clinical diagnoses, procedure codes and documents into the electronic medical record; ensure complete records with required signatures/authorizations. Provide quality assurance for medical records and ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations for applicable agencies and standards. Compile daily and monthly reports and tabulate data from medical records for research or analysis purposes. Identify validation edits and revision issues to ensure compliant coding. Work independently under regular supervision and apply ICD/CPT coding according to national guidelines; seek guidance on LCD interpretations as needed. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent with formal training in medical record keeping, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, and related areas; or an Associate’s degree in a related health care field. Requires at least one of the following active certifications: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT from AHIMA or AAPC; certification may include a general area of specialty and must be more than CPC-A for this complex role. Three or more years of complex professional coding experience within the specialty. Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles as defined by AHIMA and/or AAPC; remote-work capability with common office programs, coding software and abstracting systems. Preferred Qualifications
Specialty Certification (Radiology Certified Coder) if employed in the Imaging space. Experience in a large, multi-system physician practice preferred.
