Manage the public visibility for the press and its public relations for approximately 30 new titles and 75+ reprints each year. Develop and manage specialized publicity campaigns; implement outreach for the press’s book list across trade, scholarly, and regional audiences. Report to the Director of Sales and Marketing; no direct reports. Center the Press in local and national conversations; receive mentorship from the Director of Marketing and Sales and other staff. Serve as the primary team motivator for sharing news about titles, authors, or developments at the Press. Campaign & Outreach
Oversee title-by-title publicity efforts. Develop materials related to publicity outreach. Submit titles to book awards. Participate in pre-publication launch and planning meetings.
Communications & Relationship Management
Manage frontline marketing inquiries. Regularly meet with media contacts to present new titles. Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts.
Data & Administration
Maintain the in-house publicity database. Build and maintain contact mailing lists. Deliver publicity materials. Report on publicity efforts. Perform various duties as needed to fulfill the position.
Essential Duties
Assist with development of printed and electronic marketing communications; ensure quality and provide strategic recommendations for targeted customer groups. Assist with design, layout, and written content for electronic, print, merchandise, promotional, multimedia communications and graphic arts projects. Assist with promotions, publicize events, honors, announcements and news. Review items for Style Guide compliance and make changes as needed. Manage website content, edits, and updates; discuss changes with supervisor. Assist with redesigns on sites or pages for better user experience. Assist with developing and maintaining landing pages. Assist with marketing campaigns, including production and publicity photos. Monitor progress of projects. Assist with email marketing management. Perform various duties as needed to fulfill the function of the position. Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, or related field. Equivalency Substitution:
48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). Editing, proofreading and composition skills. Organized and able to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives. Strong organizational and time-management skills; collaborative and proactive problem solving. Working Conditions
Physical: Ability to occasionally lift 30-50 pounds. Repetitive motions: yes. Environment: Standard office environment. Deadlines and busy periods; ability to work with a wide range of constituencies. Preferred/Additional
12 months of professional experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or related field. Master’s degree preferred in a related area. 1-3 years of experience in media relations, publishing, and/or bookselling. Experience with book or printed media markets; web platforms and social media outreach. Web development and design experience; familiarity with academic or trade publishing workflows. Experience in media relations, book publicity, or bookselling. Ability to manage author communications and promotional strategy. Familiarity with bibliographic and marketing databases, including metadata systems. Special Instructions
