The Atherton Police Department is hiring officers. If you are new to law enforcement, you would be hired as a Police Trainee and attend the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium Police Academy in San Jose or San Mateo before becoming an Atherton Police Officer.
The ideal candidate for Police Officer will be an individual with a high commitment to customer service, a proven record of integrity, and the ability to work comfortably in a small-town atmosphere enjoyed by the residents of Atherton.
Position Requirements:
No experience or training required
- At least 21 years-old at the time of application

U.S. high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED); waived if you have a college degree from an
accredited college within the U.S. -
60 college credits from a U.S. accredited college or university. Credits in-progress from another police academy are not
accepted. -
Military Veterans with an honorable discharge can substitute four (4) years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy,
Marines or Coast Guard in lieu of the minimum college credit requirement -
Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship -
Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license -
Must have at least 20/40 corrected vision -
No felony, domestic violence or misdemeanor assault convictions; cannot currently be on probation or parole Compensation: Paid Academy training for Police Trainee of $44.26 per hour. -
Annual base pay range for Police Officer with required POST training: $104,769 to $127,348 -
Paid vacation and sick time accrual annually -
Uniforms dry cleaned and paid by the Town -
Four-day/Three-day workweek, 12-hour shifts – 84 hour pay period -
$5,000 educational reimbursement per year APPLICATION, TESTING AND HIRING CRITERIA All applicants are required to submit a letter of interest and a current resume' delineating their education, training and experience. There is NO closing date as the application period will remain open until the position(s) are filled. The hiring process will include but is not limited to: evaluation of the letter of interest and personal resume’, oral interview panel, and Chief of Police interview. Successful applicants must meet or exceed the aforementioned minimum qualifications.
