DC Design Manager – AMER Region, Data Center Engineering AWS

is seeking a Sr. Regional Design Manager to join its design team. The role is based in the Americas and is responsible for leading cross‑disciplinary teams to deliver high quality, globally consistent data center designs on schedule and within cost constraints. The Design Manager will maintain close connection with project details, drive design outcomes, and establish design procedures and protocols for the region.

Key Responsibilities

Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across the Americas within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality.

Influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program‑wide design changes.

Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction, and external consultants.

Identify disciplines impacted in design issues to drive cross‑disciplinary design decisions.

Understand design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle.

Apply project management skills (critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, cost management).

Manage design consultant procurement, contracting, deliverables, and payments.

Communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including creation, tracking, and reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Think outside the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during construction to reduce contract change orders without negatively impacting quality or reliability.

Prioritize competing priorities and create robust resolution frameworks when facing ambiguity.

Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, automating manual work, identifying best practices, and minimizing process variability through standardization and automation.

Create global best‑practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the business.

Motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in a growing, deadline‑driven environment.

Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and interfacing with design consultants (anticipated travel not to exceed 25%; international travel may be required).

Basic Qualifications

6+ years of experience managing staff, consultants, and vendors.

6+ years of design experience in commercial/industrial or other complex technical projects.

7+ years of large‑scale Mission Critical facility design experience; 5+ years leading sub‑consultants and project teams.

Bachelor or Master’s degree (MBA, Engineering, Architecture, Construction).

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineering/Architecture license.

3+ years of large‑scale data center facility design experience.

10+ years of experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance.

Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non‑engineers, develop basic business case financial projections, and create performance metrics.

Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding deviations from building code and construction change orders.
