Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program.

Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment.

EDRP award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training: Completed residency in an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to board certification.

Approved residencies include ACGME‑accredited programs, AOA‑accredited programs, or non‑US programs followed by five years of verified U.S. practice deemed equivalent by the Medical Staff Executive Committee.

Physician Resident Providers (PRPs): Residents in accredited programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis, with a restricted scope of practice under supervision.

Board certification or board eligibility required.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

At least five years of supervisory experience preferred.

Physical requirements: capable of performing all activities of the position, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning; may involve stairs.

Duties

Open, continuous announcement; all qualified applicants will be referred to the hiring manager weekly.

Located in VA – VHA – Mid‑Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) – Fayetteville VA Medical Center – Medicine Service.

Serve as Section Chief for the Neurology Section in the Medicine Service Line.

Ensure quality, timeliness and customer satisfaction of services; comply with accrediting bodies (Joint Commission, Inspector General’s Combined Assessment Program).

Collaborate with other services as appropriate; accountable to the Chief of Medicine Service for effective delivery and compliance.

Provide expert consultation and treatment in inpatient and outpatient settings, including neurology clinics, procedures, and critical care.

Communicate treatment plans with inpatient and outpatient providers; coordinate and lead multidisciplinary care delivery.

Maintain a privileged and practicing license; oversee scheduling of employees, call coverage, and resource allocation.

Conduct section meetings, assess program adequacy, and develop quality improvement processes.

Administer 20% administrative duties and 80% clinical duties as described.

Engage in clinical decision making, privileging processes, and clinical governance.

Benefits

Base pay range: $280,000.00/yr – $335,000.00/yr.

Paid Time Off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 sick days, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid CME).
