Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a dynamic General Manager to oversee Concessions, Premium Catering, and Athletic Dining for the University of Houston. Chartwells partners with the University of Houston to deliver innovative dining solutions that enhance campus life and guest experiences. Operational Excellence: Direct day-to-day food service operations across multiple campus locations, ensuring smooth and efficient performance. Team Leadership: Supervise and inspire managers, supervisors, and frontline staff; coordinate hiring, training, and development. Financial Accountability: Manage budgets and achieve sales goals; prepare and submit financial reports accurately and on time. Client and Guest Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with clients and guests; regularly seek feedback to improve operations. Innovation and Implementation: Execute menus, promotions, and concession programs while adhering to Chartwells standards. Event Readiness: Conduct daily FOH and BOH walkthroughs to ensure readiness for events. Compliance and Policies: Uphold responsible alcohol service policies and ensure safety and health regulation compliance. Special Projects: Perform additional duties to support department and university success. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent professional experience. 8–10 years of upscale food service experience with at least 6 years in a management role in athletics dining (concessions, premier suites, catering). Strong catering experience; proven management experience in concessions, bars, or related areas. Expertise in personnel management, including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and succession planning; ability to train, coach, and develop team members. Experience with food purchasing, cost control, and inventory management; ability to create and manage budgets and financial forecasts. Knowledge of HACCP, food safety standards, and compliance with health and fire regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of cash handling procedures. ServSafe or Department of Health certification is a plus. Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a dynamic environment; excellent business etiquette and client relationship management. Benefits
