Staff Accountant – Accounts Payable

Girls Inc. of Boston and Lynn (GIBL) is hiring a Staff Accountant – Accounts Payable to join our dynamic finance team. The role supports a $5 million nonprofit organization committed to empowering a new generation of girls.
Salary: $25 – $32 per hour (non‑exempt, part‑time). Eligible for paid time off benefits.
Position Overview Reporting to the Financial Director, the Staff Accountant – Accounts Payable will work 20.0 hours per week in a hybrid environment, with at least one day per week in the Lynn, MA office. At least 75 % of hours must be during normal business hours, M‑F.
Essential Functions & Duties Accounts Payable Management
Manage the full AP cycle from receipt of invoice through payment.
Receive, review, code, and enter invoices and purchase orders into Sage Intacct.
Ensure expenditures comply with organizational policies, grant restrictions, and funder requirements.
Process weekly or bi‑weekly payment runs (checks, ACH, wire transfers).
Maintain accurate vendor records, including W‑9 forms.
Respond to and resolve vendor inquiries promptly.
Reconcile vendor statements to the AP ledger.
Reconcile payroll journal entries during payroll and monthly bill‑pay to ensure accuracy.
General Accounting Support
Assist with month‑end closing procedures related to AP, including accruals and journal entries.
Assist with preparation of annual 1099 forms.
Process and reconcile credit card transactions and employee expense reports.
Support the development and enhancement of AP procedures in Sage Intacct.
Provide guidance to non‑Finance staff on financial procedures.
Maintain organized digital and physical financial records.
Assist the Finance Director/Controller with annual audit preparation.
Perform other administrative and accounting duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred; experience may substitute).
Minimum of 2‑3 years experience in AP or general accounting, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Sage products, or NetSuite; advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
