Job Description GEICO is seeking
Finance Data Specialists
to support the build‑out of a
Finance Data Warehouse/Lake
by partnering with both Finance and Technology teams to redesign the way they use their technologies in managing GEICO's business. The
Staff Engineer, Finance Data Specialist
will report to the Senior Manager of Finance Data & Analytics and will provide solutions on how to build out, maintain, and support a Finance Data repository to support FP&A processing and analytics while also supporting the larger Finance organization’s need for Finance data. This role is also accountable to support the delivery of technology solutions that will support FP&A Planning/Budgeting, financial reporting, Revenue/Expense Analytics, and the build‑out of the Finance Data Warehouse to become a reconciled source to allow the GL to become a “thin” ledger.
The ideal candidate has deep Finance Systems experience across multiple companies, a background in ERP and Finance Data Warehouses from both technical and functional aspects, and has supported the deployment of best practices leveraging their broad knowledge of various ERPs (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP, PeopleSoft). Prior Financial Systems experience is needed to be considered.
Position Responsibilities
Leverage functional and technical systems expertise to drive the right solution to support the department and GEICO's current and future needs.
Engage in cross‑functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
Support design sessions with peers to ensure systems are well designed, efficient, and meet business expectations.
Collaborate with Finance leaders within the FP&A, Controllers, Financial Reporting, and Finance QA & Systems teams along with the Data Engineering and Finance Technology leaders to ensure organizational goals are met.
Have a deep understanding of a few finance functions to support the establishment of a vision and technology roadmap to build out a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse.
Understand finance data lake/mart with data processing/ transformation using ETL/ELT tools such as Informatica, DBT, etc.
Design, develop, implement, and maintain solutions for data ingestion and transformation projects.
Work with cloud data solutions (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi, Snowflake, Redshift or equivalent).
Support the development of a roadmap and implementation of revenue and expense analytical solutions.
Influence customers and stakeholders, and work through divergent expectations.
Implement and maintain a strong control and governance framework for SOX and audit reviews.
Support business and technology discussions at various levels to align long‑term finance and technology goals.
Translate business and functional specifications and change requests into technical specifications.
Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
Qualifications
15+ years of Finance Systems experience with industry‑leading ERP solutions (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP, or PeopleSoft).
3+ years of experience implementing and supporting FP&A applications (Preferred).
3+ years working with or supporting a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse/Mart and various financial reporting tools.
Good understanding of dimensional data modeling.
Strong working knowledge of data processing/ transformation using ETL/ELT tools such as Informatica, DBT, etc.
Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write, debug, and optimize queries and ETL jobs.
Experience with major finance systems (PeopleSoft, Oracle EBS, Oracle Cloud, Workday, or SAP).
Finance domain expertise to work with senior finance leaders and translate their needs into system solutions.
Understanding of FP&A budgeting, planning, and forecasting processes.
Experience implementing or supporting revenue or expense analytical solutions using Power BI, Tableau, etc.
Knowledge of accounting process and reporting expectations.
Ability to communicate effectively across technology and finance teams.
Sound understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Ability to excel in a fast‑paced environment.
Knowledge of software development life cycle.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent education or work experience.
