Pre‑Analytical Assistant – Job Description
Responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department.
Meet clinical department requirements for specimen types, quantities, handling, and delivery.
Understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, including daily updates.
Adapt to change and pursue continuous improvement.
Commit to fulfilling internal and external customer requirements during routine duties.
Contribute to a team‑based working environment.
Support staffing needs on weekends, holidays, on‑call periods, and overtime.
Perform tasks with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness.
Execute manual functions such as sorting, racking, pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory, specimen storage (including archival mode), centrifugation, and aliquoting.
Learn the Pre‑Analytical Assistant I duties and develop an understanding of how Tech Ops and Specimen Processing functions interrelate to impact technical departments and result quality.
Identify and resolve issues related to specimen types, missing information, and processing steps; forward information for timely problem resolution.
Research test order information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services to meet compliance policies.
Meet quality and production standards within six months of completing training.
Complete written documentation that is clear, legible, and within assigned time frames.
Report to work on time and follow attendance guidelines; support department performance during coworker absences.
Learn additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to enable progression to the next level.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Medical background preferred, including knowledge of medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
Prior experience in a production environment preferred.
Familiarity with mainframe computers preferred.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a production environment.
Effective communication skills with all levels of staff, verbally and in writing.
Maintains composure under pressure.
Demonstrates good judgment when resolving problems.
Adherence to client core values, safety, compliance, and work‑process policies and procedures.
Experience working in a biohazard environment, following all applicable safety requirements.
Maintains a tidy work area; complies with 5S workplace standards.
Physical capability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods; lift up to 50 lbs; maneuver large carts and racks with specimens.
Strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive working environment.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing work schedules.
Basic data entry skills.
Good organizational skills.
Knowledge of specimen types related to ordered tests.
Shift: 2nd shift MON‑FRI 7 pm–3 am; 3rd shift MON‑FRI 10 pm–6 am.
