Job Description We’re seeking a detail-oriented and analytical

Consumer Loan Underwriter

to join our lending team. This role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting consumer loan applications to ensure sound credit decisions that align with the credit union’s lending policies, risk tolerance, and member service standards. The ideal candidate brings solid consumer underwriting experience, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional member experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite a full range of consumer loans, including auto, unsecured, credit card, and home equity.

Ensure compliance with all internal policies, lending procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Review and verify credit reports, income documentation, collateral values, and debt ratios to assess creditworthiness.

Communicate loan decisions promptly and clearly with branch and lending staff, providing guidance on structuring and documentation as needed.

Collaborate with lending and member service teams to deliver efficient, member-focused solutions.

Assist in the development and improvement of underwriting processes and workflow efficiency.

Support loan portfolio quality and risk management initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum of

3 years of consumer lending or underwriting experience

in a financial institution required. This is NOT a mortgage lending role.

Some business lending experience is a plus.

Strong understanding of credit analysis, loan structuring, and risk assessment.

Working knowledge of consumer lending regulations (Reg B, Reg Z, Fair Lending, etc.).

Excellent analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.

Proficiency with lending and core processing system platforms preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
