Assistant Controller – Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA)

Overview The Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA) is a new agency created to address the ongoing challenges of affordable housing in L.A. County. We help people stay in their homes and increase housing options across all communities of Los Angeles County. LACAHSA was authorized under the Los Angeles County Regional Housing Finance Act (Senate Bill 679, as amended) and is governed by a Board of 22 leaders including elected officials and housing experts.

The Assistant Controller will work collaboratively with executives and finance leadership to develop organization‑wide processes and policies that establish and maintain generally accepted internal controls. This role will assist the Controller in maintaining the agency’s books and records, performing general ledger entry and maintenance, preparing monthly and annual reports, and ensuring strong internal controls. The Assistant Controller will also perform project‑based work at the direction of the Controller, contributing technical accounting expertise and operational excellence to support the agency’s financial integrity.

What You’ll Do

Prepare and review GASB-compliant financial statements

Research and resolve technical accounting issues

Develop internal controls over financial reporting

Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and assist with the month‑end close process

Assist with the planning and coordination of external and internal audits

Assist with the development and preparation of the annual budget

Support accountability and transparency efforts through application and improvement of internal controls for internal and external reporting

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution

4 years of government practice, either in government or at an accounting firm serving governmental clients (Public accounting experience preferred)

Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders

Experience supporting audit preparation, annual budgets, and financial policy development

Desired Experience

8 years of government practice, either in government or at an accounting firm serving governmental clients (Public accounting experience preferred)

Familiarity with fund accounting, grant management, and financial compliance requirements

Demonstrated success in implementing or improving internal controls and financial reporting systems

Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting, or similar ERP systems)

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement

Licenses / Certifications CPA preferred.

Technical Skills Microsoft 365 Suite, Excel, EHR, ERP, Sage, Salesforce, and Neighborly.

Compensation Range We are committed to equitable compensation practices and offer an annual salary ranging from $145,000 to $175,000, depending on your experience and qualifications.
