Essential Functions Must advise, coordinate and support the sport staff with the Athletics Director and principal. Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for individual and team success. At the same time, students shall receive instruction that leads to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline and self‑confidence.

General Tasks The position includes other aspects such as extended time, risk‑injury factor and due process predicaments. It is the express intent of the description to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, the coach will exercise the common sense and good judgment of a prudent and reasonable person.

Duties and Responsibilities Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the high school administration and is responsible for implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. Has knowledge of existing systems, state and regional regulations; implements them consistently and interprets them for staff and athletes. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation. Develops, organizes, and supervises practices and competitions to ensure ethical participation, safety of all present, and adherence to all AIA and NFHS rules of the sport. Assists the Athletics Director in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sports events. Assists in the necessary preparation for scheduled sporting events or practice. Advises the Athletics Director on recommended policy changes. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletics Director and/or principal.

Qualifications Valid Arizona Teacher Certification, Substitute Certificate required. Employment as a teacher at the Catalina Foothills School District preferred. Must be able to organize and supervise an entire sports program. Should possess substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. Must be CPR & First Aid certified. Must have a current IVP fingerprint clearance card without restrictions. Must hold a valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record and must be able to drive a district vehicle (small van) to matches and serve as the supervising adult.
