Position: Dental Assistant
Position Summary
The Dental Assistant works under a dentist’s supervision to prepare equipment, ready patients, and assist during procedures by passing instruments, holding suction, and anticipating the dentist’s needs. Responsibilities may also include removing sutures, processing x‑rays, and taking oral impressions for crowns.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direct supervision of the Prosthodontist/Oral Surgeon.
- Perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, including chair‑side assistance while dentists examine and treat patients.
- Ensure patients are comfortable, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records.
- Hand instruments and materials to dentists; keep patients’ mouths dry and clear using suction or other devices.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; prepare trays for procedures; instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.
- Prepare materials for impressions and restorations, take dental x‑rays, and process x‑ray film as directed.
- Handle other radiological equipment and assist patients with these procedures.
- Perform office duties: scheduling and confirming appointments, receiving patients, keeping treatment records, sending bills, receiving payments, ordering supplies and materials.
- Assist in specialty areas such as oral surgery, periodontics, and prosthodontics, including dental implantology.
- Support and assist the hygienist as needed (cleaning trays, room set‑ups, clean‑ups).
- Help track inventory of prosthetic supplies and keep the storage closet organized.
- Support the radiographic needs of Patient Education Consultants, Oral Surgeon, and Hygienists.
Working Conditions
- Work in a well‑lit, clean environment near the dental chair.
- Wear gloves, masks, eyewear, and protective clothing to protect against infectious diseases.
- Follow safety procedures to minimize risks associated with x‑ray machines.
Experience & Qualifications
- Certified Dental Assistant by A.D.A.
- Two years of Dental Assistant experience.
- Dental implant experience desirable.
- Reliable, work well with others in a fast‑paced environment, good manual dexterity.
- Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Physical Requirements
- Require daily walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods.
- Need steady hand/arm movements, precise coordination of fingers.
- Carry out tasks that involve bending, stretching, twisting, reaching.
- Maintain trunk strength and multi‑limb coordination during duties.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly rate: $22.00–$27.00.
