Advanced Practice Professional (PA) Pediatric Otolaryngology Advanced Practice Professional (APP) role in Pediatric Otolaryngology. One 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired. Applicants: qualified NP and PA candidates will be considered (PAs apply to job # 269678; NPs apply to job # 269677).

Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage children with otolaryngology diagnoses on the inpatient service.

Complete history and physical examinations, order diagnostic studies, and obtain surgical consents.

Use examination and diagnostic information to formulate differential diagnoses and develop care plans.

Collaborate with primary and consulting services; provide comprehensive handoffs to team members.

Document all patient care encounters in a timely manner; access information in the medical record, record evaluations and progress notes, review lab results, process orders and discharges.

Apply current medical knowledge and evidence to patient care with a high level of critical thinking.

Participate in educational meetings within the program, department, and institution.

Establish and maintain a collaborative team approach with all team members.

Demonstrate flexibility to meet patient and family needs, as well as division and department demands.

Respond to patient and family preferences and needs; provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Perform otolaryngology procedures such as frenotomy, flexible laryngoscopy, tracheobronchoscopy, and tracheostomy tube changes.

Admit patients as the first contact; work with minimal supervision as part of a collaborative team including physicians and residents.

Perform postoperative checks and participate in inpatient consultations.

Cross‑train for the tracheostomy team and provide support.

Qualifications Note: Employment is contingent upon credentialing and privileging; applicants must meet all required qualifications prior to start date.

Required Qualifications For Nurse Practitioners (NP)

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner certification in Michigan.

Specialty certification in Pediatric Acute Care NP, Pediatric Primary Care NP, or Family NP.

If Pediatric Primary Care NP or Family NP, at least 2 years of inpatient pediatric clinical experience.

Graduate of an accredited NP program.

CN SBN/ANCC-recognized NP credential.

Current DEA registration.

AHA BLS certification; PALS can be obtained post‑hire during credentialing.

1 year of pediatric inpatient APP experience within the last 5 years.

For Physician Assistants (PA)

ARC-PA accredited PA program completion (or predecessor agencies CAHEA/CAAHEP).

National NCCPA certification.

Current Michigan PA license.

Michigan Controlled Substance License.

Current DEA registration.

AHA BLS certification; PALS can be obtained post‑hire during credentialing.

1 year of pediatric inpatient APP experience within the last 5 years.

Employment is contingent upon successful credentialing and privileging.

Desired Qualifications

APP experience with pediatric otolaryngology patients.

Experience with pediatric surgical patients within the last four years.

Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.

Strong procedural skills.

Work Schedule Hours: 40 per week. Shift length and days may vary based on department needs.

Modes of Work Hybrid or remote work mode eligibility is at the discretion of the hiring department and subject to annual review and change.

Union Affiliation Covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine.

Background Screening Background screening and pre‑employment drug testing may be conducted in compliance with applicable laws.
