PACS Administrator
The primary role of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Administrator is to handle the overall planning, design, testing, implementation, training, documentation, operation, and support of PACS and Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) applications, databases, interfaces, and reports including integration to the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The PACS Administrator also ensures all guidelines are met for the operation of these systems and acts as a key business liaison. The PACS Administrator must also be familiar with the server configuration, client installation, image and data transfer formats, and application backup and recovery procedures for these applications.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, DICOM routing, and prefetching and other related activities. Works closely with unit operations managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and QA exceptions handling.
Maintaining, managing, and troubleshooting of the PACS / CPACS system
Managing and implementing the storage of all received digital images from a variety of sources to build and maintain routing solutions for diagnostic images
Developing and planning strategies, and providing technical support
Oversees and coordinates strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives
Serving as a point of contact for the further development and improvement of a system in a medical facility
Acts as liaison between IT and Radiologists. Must understand the radiologist workflow and integration between PACS system and Cerner Millennium EHR (electronic health record).
Install, configure and administer the connection of modalities in the existing network
Jointly responsible for the administration of user profiles
Managing the updating and archiving of image data
Managing supplier relationships and maintaining technology
Collaborate with the IT infrastructure team to communicate storage and compute needs for the PACS application
Works closely with radiology's quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations.
May work with client leadership in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures. In addition, may work with client leadership to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.
Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.
Works in cooperation with end user support and/or radiology, identifying present and future needs for equipment installation.
Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.
Provides management and statistical reporting, including ad hoc report development. Prepares reports for administration on all aspects of medical imaging operations as appropriate or directed.
Provide on-call support, including weekends
Owns their portfolio of solutions by keeping abreast of enhancements, patches, and upgrades and ensuring that these are communicated to HIT leadership and implemented timely

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
5+ years’ experience in a healthcare IT setting with imaging modalities, PACS & dictation systems
CIIP Preferred
Experience with Fuji Synapse PACS Required
Experience with PACS Cloud Preferred
Experience with integration with Cerner Millennium EHR Required
Experience with Cerner Millennium RadNet a plus
Application support experience in a hospital environment a plus
Knowledge of the HL7 / DICOM standard in theory and practice
Basic knowledge of database structures and can create database queries (e.g. SQL)
Understanding of diagnostic images and workflows with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Radiological Information Systems (RIS)
