Overview
Environmental Compliance Inspector I/II at Central Contra Costa Sanitary District. This position will perform inspections, investigations, sampling, and other work related to enforcing local, State, and Federal standards for wastewater discharge. Responsibilities include performing pretreatment, storm water, and/or pollution prevention investigations, as well as providing technical assistance to customers and public agencies. Eligible to apply for advancement to the level II position after 18 months. Responsibilities
Performing a variety of activities supporting the District's Environmental Compliance program. Performing field inspections and reviewing construction plans and specifications to determine if facilities are operating in accordance with District standards. Inspecting and sampling industrial and commercial users of the District's facilities using appropriate sampling and chain of custody procedures. Inspecting hazardous material storage areas, pretreatment equipment, and general process operations of industrial and commercial users. Enforcing provisions of wastewater discharge permits, District's ordinances, storm water standards including Federal, State, and local regulations. Operating and maintaining sampling, flow metering, and other environmental compliance monitoring equipment. Keeping thorough records. Preparing and evaluating reports and permits. Education and Experience
Education: Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college which included completion of two college-level courses from any of the following disciplines: organic and inorganic chemistry, hazardous materials technology, environmental science, water/wastewater, or related field. Experience: One year of full-time experience performing professional inspection/compliance duties in wastewater operations or similar field. Substitution: A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a closely related field may be substituted for the one year of required experience. Licenses and Certifications
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Possession of an Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade I certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within two years of appointment. Possession of a Pretreatment Facility Inspection Certificate issued by Sacramento State University within two years of appointment. Possession of a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Certificate shall be obtained within one year of appointment. Additional Details

The examination process may include, but is not limited to, a written examination, practical examination, application screening, and/or oral board examination. The list of eligibles is valid for six months and may be extended up to six months at the request of the hiring department. The list may be used to fill future vacancies. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the examination process. All applicants will be notified of the results of the review process.
