We have an exciting new opening for an Accounts Payable Supervisor to join our growing Finance team in our Director's Office!

Responsibilities As the Accounts Payable Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operations of the Accounts Payable unit, ensuring that payments, invoices, refunds, and statements are processed efficiently and accurately. Your keen eye for detail will be critical in reviewing and auditing payment entries, proactively identifying and correcting any discrepancies. In this role, you will be expected to lead and provide clear guidance to your team on best practices and procedures, ensuring full compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You’ll be a problem solver, adept at addressing challenges and finding effective solutions to maintain compliance with all agency policies and directives. Your understanding of the why behind our accounting processes will help grow and align your team's state accounting knowledge.

What you will do

Research discrepancies regarding past due accounts and process correcting entries as needed.

Conduct fiscal research to make correcting entries and develop or recommend procedures to improve accounting operations and mitigate future occurrence.

Perform fiscal year close activities related to accounts payable and fiscal close.

Analyze fiscal data from multiple sources to reconcile assigned general ledger accounts to ensure accurate balances.

Conduct research in multiple systems to investigate and balance interagency payables at year end.

Communicate with vendors to explain and resolve potential issues.

Assist with inquiries regarding vendor setups, obtaining quotes, wage rates, use tax, and payment approval procedures.

Supervise, train, and review the work of fiscal staff and supervisors for accuracy.

Advise fiscal staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.

What you will bring Eight (8) years of experience in accounting, auditing, budget, finance, business administration, economics, or public administration field.

AND

18 quarter hours or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, budget, finance, business administration, economics, or public administration.

Four (4) years of relevant education may substitute year for year for experience.

Experience can be obtained concurrently.

Experience must include:

Three (3) years of experience:

Analyzing and reconciling general or subsidiary ledger for validity and accuracy.

Entering accurate accounting related information into an electronic accounting system.

Providing customer service by listening attentively, identifying needs or issues, providing options for customers, and exercising knowledge of state laws and regulations to assist others.

Interpreting, explaining, and training on agency/organization directions, policies, and procedures.

Conveying ideas and information in writing, using language appropriate to the topic and reader.

Accurately using the ten-key numeric keypad on a computer or adding machine to enter numerical data by touch.

Two (2) years of experience:

Using spreadsheet software, such as Excel to find and replace data, create, modify, print, and format spreadsheets, work with basic formulas and functions, use templates, styles, autoformat and multiple worksheets.

Using word processing software, such as Microsoft Word.

Performing research, gathering applicable records, and managing hardcopy and electronic accounting records.

What may help set you apart

Experience working in Washington State government accounting.

Experience accurately inputting data and reviewing transactions in Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) and ability to run Enterprise Reporting reports.

Experience in accounting theory, principles and practices, internal control procedures, financial management software applications, and GAAP.

Experience successfully directing the work of others through mentoring, coaching, and team building.

Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).

Experience using DOL specific systems such as DRIVES, POLARIS, and RevVal.
