Job Summary

The Sommelier is expected to be an expert in all areas pertaining to wines. The Sommelier must be able to assist guests with recommending wine selections that pair well with their food selections. The sommelier’s expertise is an essential part of the guests dining experience. The sommelier will advise the Beverage Manager on updates to the current wine lists, and assist in sourcing unique and high-quality wines. Responsibilities

Keeps inventory and orders wine to replenish stock Stores wines on racks or shelves in wine cellar to inventory and ensure accurate retrieval of orders Meets with winery representatives and tastes wines to select for wine list Maintains wine list and recommends bottle or individual glass prices Recommends guest wine pairings with their dinner Discusses wines with guests and assists guests to make wine selections Knows up-selling techniques Alcohol Awareness "ServSafe" Opens wine bottles, tastes wine or offers a sample to guests prior to serving Provides excellent customer service and interacts with guests to create memorable experiences Responds effectively to guest problems and complaints; focuses on guest satisfaction and continuous improvement Shares knowledge with others; builds a positive team spirit Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; solicits feedback to improve service Demonstrates awareness of business implications of decisions and profitability Requirements

Certification as a Sommelier or a degree in Hospitality is beneficial Previous experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward, or in a Hospitality role Extensive knowledge of wines and regions Knowledge of local vineyards and wineries An understanding of the winemaking process Personal Appearance

Must abide by the brand standards pertaining to uniform requirements Personal appearance must be suitable for work at all times; nails clean and trimmed; clean-shaven when required; slip-resistant black shoes Maintain personal health and sanitation standards Personal Attributes
