The Wyoming Attorney General's Office has an immediate opening for a motivated and creative attorney to handle the challenging legal work for the Wyoming Department of Health. This is an opportunity to be on the front lines, advising the Division of Healthcare Financing (Medicaid) through intellectually challenging and engaging work that directly serves the State of Wyoming. The role offers a unique opportunity to:

Become a specialist:

Develop expertise in the highly specialized area of Medicaid estate recovery, becoming a key authority within the Wyoming Department of Health.

Grow your litigation skills:

Handle a diverse caseload, from drafting pleadings and managing discovery to representing the Department in administrative tribunals, building a robust litigation portfolio.

Expand your advisory skillset:

Work closely with the HIPAA compliance officer and other senior‑level clients, honing your ability to provide clear, strategic legal counsel on complex issues.

Collaborate and learn:

Work in a supportive team structure, collaborating with senior leadership while independently managing your assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function performed at the job level.

Translate complex legal and factual issues into clear, precise, and compelling written and oral presentations.

Conduct and synthesize legal research to deliver timely and precise day‑to‑day legal advice.

Educate and guide agency clients on the application of relevant statutes and administrative processes.

Undertake additional duties as required to support the legal and operational function of the agency.

PREFERENCES / AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

To the extent that you are already familiar with health law and civil litigation, administrative law, and some of the unique challenges that arise when representing a government agency, we want you to apply. To the extent that you are not familiar with these areas of law, but you have an interest, we still want you to apply. We will work with you to ensure that you have the knowledge you need to succeed.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Ability to exercise independent judgement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:

Juris Doctorate

NOTES

FLSA: Exempt

Salary is commensurate with relevant legal experience.

Ability and willingness to travel.

Successful applicants are required to pass a background investigation.

This position is At‑Will and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Attorney General (W.S. 9‑1‑608).
