DESCRIPTION Under general direction, the incumbent serves as the lead technologist for McGrath Outpatient Pavilion's Diagnostic Imaging department, providing advanced technical expertise and leadership within the Diagnostic Radiology unit. This position functions as a departmental resource, ensuring all imaging activities are performed in accordance with established protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent exercises a high level of professional knowledge in radiologic technology and performs a comprehensive range of routine to complex radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations utilizing fixed and portable imaging equipment across General Diagnostic Radiology.

The incumbent is recognized as a subject matter expert in diagnostic imaging, providing technical guidance and assistance to other technologists, and demonstrating a thorough understanding of radiation safety principles and practices. Responsibilities include preparing and positioning patients in accordance with established protocols to achieve optimal image quality, following Radiologist-specified procedures, entering and verifying complex data within the imaging system, and reviewing all studies to ensure technical accuracy and diagnostic quality. The incumbent ensures full compliance with institutional policies, departmental procedures, and all applicable regulatory standards.

In addition to core imaging responsibilities, the incumbent serves as the primary liaison for the orthopedic clinic, coordinating and managing imaging operations to support surgical, plastic surgery, and orthopedic clinical services. The position maintains effective communication among these departments to promote operational efficiency and service excellence. The incumbent leads and participates in quality improvement and workflow enhancement initiatives aimed at maintaining high levels of satisfaction within the orthopedic department. Additional responsibilities include training and mentoring all staff assigned to McGrath Outpatient Pavilion, acting as a superuser to maintain and update equipment protocols specific to orthopedic‑specific imaging and Radiologist preference, and assisting supervisors with staff competency assessments. The incumbent also provides ongoing education regarding orthopedic protocols, procedural changes, and department needs. The incumbent will need to be well‑versed in DEXA and fluoroscopic procedures as they will be responsible for ensuring proper scheduling of outpatients for both areas. This position will be required to staff Hillcrest hospital when staffing needs call for it, in addition to minimum holiday staffing requirements.

This position requires demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and strong collaboration skills. The incumbent supports supervisory staff in conducting meetings, performance evaluations, and departmental projects, while consistently promoting teamwork, professionalism, and the delivery of high‑quality patient care. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support departmental operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of a school of radiologic technology.

California Radiology Technologist of Fluoroscopy (CRT‑F).

California Radiology Technologist of Radiography (CRT‑R).

Registered Technologist for Radiography issued by ARRT (R.T(R)ARRT).

BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a radiologic technologist.

Possess the skills, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Knowledge of radiological computerized systems and applications.

Thorough understanding of various radiological systems to include PACS and RIS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Seven (7) years of experience as a senior radiologic technologist.

Hospital experience.

Proficiency in fluoro exams.

Proficiency in DEXA.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and various locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center's business needs.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $115,884 - $144,176 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $55.50 - $69.05

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
