Help Shape the Future of Mental Health in Minnesota Schools
PrairieCare Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing mental health programming and initiatives within schools across Minnesota. Our mission is to ensure that every student has access to the resources and support they need to thrive emotionally and academically. By working directly with educational institutions, we aim to create environments that foster mental wellness, address early signs of mental health challenges, and equip students with the tools they need to succeed.
As we continue to expand our efforts, PrairieCare Fund is seeking dynamic and passionate individuals to join our
Board of Directors . This is an exciting opportunity to become part of an organization that is making a profound impact on mental health education and resources in schools, helping to ensure that the next generation receives the support they deserve.
Who We’re Looking For We are seeking
new board members in a volunteer role
who:
Have a
deep passion for mental health and education , particularly in school settings
Possess
wide professional or community networks
and are enthusiastic about using them to further our mission
Are skilled in
engaging organizations, building partnerships, and driving awareness and advocacy
Bring a diverse set of skills and experiences from sectors like healthcare, education, law, finance, or community leadership
General Expectations for All Board Members All board members are expected to:
Attend and actively engage in all board meetings (typically held every other month in-person or virtual)
Serve on at least one committee or task force
Participate in strategic planning and provide oversight for organizational initiatives
Advocate for the mission of PrairieCare Fund and represent the organization publicly
Stay informed about the organization’s mission, mental health programs, finances, and needs
Maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest
Comply with all legal, ethical, and fiduciary responsibilities
Annual Board Contribution Each board member is asked to contribute a minimum of
$5,000 annually , which can be fulfilled through a combination of:
A personal financial donation
Volunteer time beyond standard board responsibilities
Securing financial donations through professional or personal networks
Bringing sponsors or donors to key events or campaigns
In-kind support or leveraging networks to amplify fundraising efforts
This flexible contribution model ensures that board members play an active role in supporting PrairieCare Fund’s mission in a way that aligns with their individual resources and strengths.
Board Roles & Leadership Opportunities Board Chair
Leads board meetings and collaborates closely with the Executive Director
Appoints committee chairs and supports the recruitment of new board members
Guides board development and performance evaluation
Acts as spokesperson for the organization when appropriate
Vice Chair / Co-Chair
Steps in for the Chair as needed
Assists with key leadership initiatives and continuity
Takes on special assignments and initiatives
Secretary
Manages scheduling, attendance, and communication for board meetings
Records and distributes meeting minutes
Ensures secure storage of board documents and tracks board compliance
Treasurer
Leads financial planning and oversight for PrairieCare Fund
Chairs the Finance Committee and ensures fiscal accountability
Partners with the Executive Director to manage the organization’s budget
Members At-Large
Engage actively in board governance, committees, and special initiatives
Play a key role in fundraising and outreach
Represent PrairieCare Fund within the community
Our Impact Through our initiatives in Minnesota schools, PrairieCare Fund has already made a significant impact on students, teachers, and school communities. Some of our recent accomplishments include:
115 Minnesota schools
supported through targeted mental health programming
Over 100,000 students and staff
reached with direct mental health education and wellness resources
