Summary
Summary:
This is a skilled inspection role focused on ensuring building construction, repairs, and alterations comply with the
Florida Building Code ,
Miami-Dade County Code , and related regulations. Work involves independent field inspections, enforcement actions, and coordination with contractors and the public.
Responsibilities
Inspect new construction, alterations, and repairs for code compliance and permit validity.
Review structural elements including foundations, steel, wood framing, trusses, beams, and fireproofing.
Investigate non-compliance issues related to building systems (e.g., HVAC, chimneys, fire escapes, skylights).
Secure evidence and assist in enforcement, including arrests or prosecution for code violations.
Perform Certificate of Use inspections and respond to public complaints.
Keep detailed records of inspections and prepare reports.
Conduct joint inspections as needed.
Perform other related duties.
Minimum Requirements
Must meet qualifications as a
Building Inspector (Structural)
per:
Miami-Dade County Code
Florida DBPR
Florida Statutes
Valid
Florida Driver’s License (Class E)
required before appointment.
Additional requirements may apply based on City needs, in line with legal regulations.
Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and techniques.
Able to identify structural defects and recommend corrective actions.
Familiarity with Florida Building Code and other local regulations.
Able to interpret plans, diagrams, and technical drawings.
Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and write clear inspection reports.
Works well independently and exercises sound judgment in the field.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Primarily outdoor work at construction sites and development areas.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 14 lbs), and stair climbing.
Exposure to high temperatures, dust, and occasional physical exertion.
Must be able to operate technical equipment and write reports in English.
