Primary Purpose PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Assist Project Controls Managers in their duties: provide mentoring/coaching, conduct performance reviews, lead process/tools improvements, and drive initiatives at internal and EU levels. Provide project controls support (estimating, scheduling and/or cost analysis) to Directors, Managers of Project Controls, Managers of Project Management, or other key team members. Supervise, mentor and manage workload within the group. Utilize multiple Exelon systems to support budgeting, forecasting, actual cost tracking, project authorization, work management, contracts, material tracking and Project Aging PIs. Develop, monitor, and present project and program performance reports and provide broad analytical and operational support to P&CM. Coordinate and monitor checkbook packages to annual budgets, actual and forecasted costs, and Long-Range Plans for transmission, substation, distribution, and gas projects and programs. Prepare comprehensive reports to support business operations including reauthorization risk, forecast accuracy by Project Managers, program and department metrics, CIAC forecast and analysis, contingency release and remaining, and other requests. Coordinate reporting of financial and schedule risks and opportunities with detailed variance analysis. Represent Project Controls in estimating, scheduling or cost processes, process improvements, and adherence to procedures. Collaborate with Finance and other departments to address issues. Position may require extended hours for storms or energy delivery emergencies.
Primary Duties
Supervision and mentoring : provide supervision, performance measures and training/mentoring of a specified function (estimators, schedulers and/or cost analysts) or as directed by the Manager, Project Controls (25%).
Reporting and analysis : build reports (estimates, schedules, financial reports) and analyze variances to budget and plan; ensure alignment of work with department budget, performance goals, regulatory priorities and reliability objectives. (15%)
Budget and LRPs : develop and monitor budgets and LRPs; track forecasts, accruals, actuals; attend meetings and obtain project information; identify issues early and assist in resolutions for transmission, substation, distribution, and gas projects. (15%)
Forecasting meetings : schedule and facilitate monthly forecasting and risk/opportunity meetings; provide variance analysis and support project management in financial or scheduling challenge meetings. (15%)
Governance and compliance : provide guidance for estimating, scheduling or budget development; monitor forecast accuracy and re-forecasting to ensure SOX compliance. (15%)
Vendor forecasting : analyze the vendor forecasting work-in-reported process used for forecasting and accruals. (5%)
Support : provide support to Project Managers for presentations and analysis. (5%)
Portfolio analysis : provide support to Manager, Project Controls for portfolio analysis and leadership presentations. (5%)
Job Scope
This is a supervisor position that reports to a Manager who operates independently with limited supervision, guiding a group of employees and possibly contractors, while mentoring and coaching others.
Requires routine interaction with key internal and external stakeholders, executives, directors, managers and staff across the organization.
May require working extended hours and/or shift work to support business operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Academic/Formal Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Technical Field.
Experience:
4-7 years related experience, or in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 6-9 years relevant business experience is required.
Specialized Skills:
Comprehensive understanding of applicable standards, methods, processes and practices; business fundamentals; and performance metrics in the supported functional area (e.g., asset management, electric or gas operations, customer service, transmission and substation, distribution operations, regulatory and external affairs, etc.).
Ability to provide in-depth analysis and apply forecasting, analytical and statistical problem solving, financial, accounting, and budget analysis.
Ability to supervise, mentor and develop people; strong analytical skills for project financial evaluation and risk mitigation.
Customer-focused with strong oral and written communications skills, analytical, problem-solving and project management abilities.
Knowledge of financial/cost analyst practices, performance analysis, benchmarking and audit compliance.
Ability to analyze complex data, interpret and recommend actions, and implement intervention strategies to meet targets.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex projects with economic, financial, risk and decision analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
Financial, Business or Project Management advanced degree.
8-10 years of project experience in estimating, scheduling or cost tracking in electric/gas transmission, distribution, and substation fields.
Advanced proficiency in standard software and project management tools to retrieve and analyze data.
Proficient in business case development and presenting cases to leadership.
Professional certification in cost or project management (e.g., PMP, CCP).
