Teach undergraduate and master’s level courses in Data Science within Computer Science and Software Engineering. Support and expand curricular development in computer science and/or software engineering. Engage in high-quality scholarly work evidenced by external peer review. Perform service activities at all levels of the University as a colleague. Qualifications
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent (ABD considered with proof of degree awarded prior to or by start of appointment). Excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty. Ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and partnerships with key stakeholders. Demonstrated hands-on, student-centered learning and teaching; ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of excellence in university-level teaching and research (time-since-degree dependent). Experience with laboratory-based instruction and/or industry experience. Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment. Ability to teach in areas of need (data science, AI, machine learning, databases, data visualization, data ethics, data engineering, data mining, big data). Special Conditions
Mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act; comply with CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Background check required after conditional offer; inability to satisfactorily complete may result in withdrawal of offer. Current employees may require a background check for eligible positions; sensitive positions have heightened scrutiny. Faculty seeking permanent residency are responsible for immigration attorney fees. Cal Poly is a smoke and tobacco-free campus. Possibility of transition to semester-based year-round operations (YRO) with teaching in two consecutive semesters; third semester may be available for additional compensation per needs and policy.
