About The Position The Prince George's County
Office of the Sheriff
is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill multiple permanent, full-time
Experienced Deputy Sheriff (EDS) (Deputy Sheriff Private) , grade
W21 . Candidates must have at least one year of prior experience as a certified full-time Police Officer or qualified law enforcement officer. Candidates without experience should apply under the Deputy Sheriff Private (Entry‑Level) announcement at https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/pgc.
Examples of Work
Provide effective and efficient law enforcement services to the residents of Prince George's County
Perform general law enforcement and investigations controlling and serving warrants and/or extraditing persons wanted on criminal warrants
Transport prisoners to and from various institutions and courts throughout the State of Maryland and the United States
Arrest, detain and process prisoners that are in the custody of the Office of the Sheriff
Serve civil processes/summonses
Execute writs/court orders
Maintain security in the courtrooms of the Circuit and District Courts
Monitor prisoners in holding areas
Perform court related house evictions
Complete reports
Minimum Qualifications
U.S. Citizen
High School graduate or possess a G.E.D.
At least 21 years of age at the time of submitting an application
Completed at least one (1) year as a certified full-time Police Officer or law enforcement officer
Possess a valid driver's license and at least 6 months of post‑license driving experience
Pass all of the qualification factors listed in the Additional Information
Registered with Selective Service
Preferred Qualifications
Currently certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission
Completed at least one (1) year as a certified full-time Police Officer or law enforcement officer in the State of Maryland
60+ college credit hours

Testing positive on drug screening to include marijuana
Failure to meet physical and mental standards
Failure to present a professional appearance
Poor credit history
